Kia Ora

Or 'Hello - good day' in New Zealand.  Welcome to my travel blog, let me begin by telling you a little bit about my trip.  I made a decision to change the direction my life was going by purchasing a one-way ticket to New Zealand in November 2011.  I had a great job and a fantastic group of friends in Olympia, but I couldn't shake the feeling of being stuck, like I wasn't ready to settle down yet.  I had saved up some money, didn't have a house or kids, so I decided to take a break from my career to  travel.
One of my passions is fresh local food: growing it, cooking it, sharing it, etc.  I heard about the WWOOFing (Willing Workers On Organic Farms) program, a program where you work on organic farms in exchange for room and board, and thought it sounded like a fun way to travel and an exciting opportunity to meet and learn from local people.  I am excited to see how it feels to work outside and see the day to day operations of several local distributing farms.
This is my first blog (eek!) so bear with me.  I will try to update as much as possible and hope to wow you with colorful descriptions and photographs.  Thanks for reading.

Hi Melody! This is Mitch Olson, remember me? Anyway i just saw your blog on facebook and thought i'd take a look. I couldnt believe what i was reading because at one point i thought about doing the same thing! I wanted to WOOF and New Zealand was at the top of my list. But with student loans and that whole money thing it didnt really pan out. Im now working as a Grain Inspector for the WSDA but am thinking in the back of my mind that someday i will have the urge like you did to pack up and bounce. So i think thats rad you decided to do it! Hope your living large and i look forward to reading more of your posts in the future!
